Complete Odour Control Unit (OCU) Installation
A sewage pumping station (SPS), situated within a residential area in the Greater Toronto Area, was dealing with odour issues and complaints from the town residents. The odours were being produced by the SPS underground wet well and pumping operations, which emitted a mixture of contaminants comprised of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S), Reduced Sulphur Compounds (RSCs), Aldehydes, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
Innovative Odour Control Solution Implementation
Continental Carbon Group (CCG) collaborated closely with the project’s design engineer to develop a comprehensive, self-contained OCU solution. Subsequently, the general contractor selected CCG to implement the system and since installation, the OCU has performed perfectly in alignment with the designated specifications. As well, the air quality within the facility complies to the Ontario Ambient Air Discharge Regulation (O.Reg. 419). The inclusion of dual media beds was strategically planned to incorporate specialized adsorption media, carefully tailored to meet the specific treatment goals of the SPS. Rigorous quarterly performance assessments, carried out by an independent laboratory, confirmed that the concentration of odorous elements in the exhaust was reduced by over 99 percent. No complaints about the odours or noise have been made from the local residents since the system’s installation.
